Once consigned to the dustbin of art history, the Victorian era is now recognized as a period of significant cultural achievement, with technology and new ideas fueling artistic innovators such as the radical Pre-Raphaelites, celebrated Art Nouveau illustrator Aubrey Beardsley and photographer Julia Margaret Cameron. The rapid pace of change also brought about a nostalgia for a rose-tinted past, manifested in the Gothic Revival, paintings of fairies and the Golden Age of children's book illustration.
